Decorative
applications of a holography
The results obtained
allowed us to get high quality of holographic reproduction of images. The objects of
holographying were the rarities stored in different museums such as Historical Museum,
Diamond Fund and others. The holograms have been demonstrated in many exhibitions both in
Russia and abroad (USA, France, Austria, Czechoslovakia and others) and has always excited
delight not only of ordinary customers but of specialists. Russian reflecting holograms
were considered to belong among the best in the world and those products are very popular.
But the technology
developed was directed at production of unique sample holograms and supposed no commercial
production. The technology of the commercial production of holograms was developed in NIKFI in the middle of 80s. It provides high productivity (5 to
10 thousand holograms of 9x12 cm size per month) at low rejection (10% to 15%) and high
image quality. At the same time the works on widening the range of products have been
carried out. Thus, by now we have the following applications of the pictorial holography:
Museum-exhibition
holography. The holograms of unique objects, most of which are stored but never
exhibited. But the holograms can be exhibited in moving exhibitions, museums, be sold in
the special saloons. It is possible to create museum's exchange funds, holography catalogs
with the 3D images of the museum objects, etc.
Holographic plates. We
produce framed reflecting holograms on different themes. The usual dimensions are from
9x12 cm to 30x40 cm. The holograms are bright enough to be reproduced with the aid of
domestic light sources such as desk lamps, chandeliers, bras etc. Those holographic plates
serve as decorative items of interior, may be placed on the walls, furniture, can serve as
unusual decorative frames.
Holographic
souvenirs. They are holographic labels, trinkets, pendants and other small articles.
The holograms for those items are made of bi-chromic gelatin that provides high brightness
of images. Since the recorded objects have small depth (5 to 7 mm), the image can be
reproduced at any illumination.
The holograms are often
covered by different bright inscriptions also with the aid of holography method. Those
holograms are ordered by companies as advertisement souvenirs.
Holographic
sunglasses. The lenses of those glasses are dim transparent reflecting holograms. An
external observer can see 3D images of funny contents in the sun light, those are not seen
to the owner of glasses and do not interfere with the vision.
Holographic lamps. Table
or wall lamps can include a halogen bulb with a hologram of a certain 3D
image. The brightness and small dimensions of halogen bulbs provides proper quality of
reproduced of images.
Decorative
holographic glass. Those are complex diffraction grating made by the method of
holography. The glass produces a series of bright iridescent spots situated at different
places if a point light source is situated behind it. Holographic technology provides
almost infinite variety of the light effects formed by those glasses. They are used in the
interior design, advertisement and exhibition panels in production of pointers, signboards
etc. Unusual lamps can also be made with those glasses.
The enlisted types of
holographic products are mainly manufactured under special orders. Widening of the market
needs much investments and labor that includes advertisement of the new goods and
development of specification for their usage and demonstration. The practice showed that
the best sales of the holographic production took place in exhibition-sales. This form is
well realized in the Central pavilion on the All-Russian
Exhibition Center - VVC (Moscow). A large exhibition with properly disposed lamps and
holograms attract the customer's attention and prompts the possibilities of usage of
holograms in the interior design. An experienced seller helps to make the right choice.
Just on site a customer may order his holographic portrait.
Unfortunately, that enterprise is probably the only one in Russia (may be in the ex
USSR). However its experience, the possibilities of the technology and the steady widening
of the holography market allows us to expect that holograms will soon enter our
everyday life.
